Brief History of Flackwell Heath

The first recorded listing of Flackwell Heath was in 1690. It was a heavily wooded area  with a few cottages high above the River Thames. By the mid 1700s, it was the home to cherry orchards and an annual a cherry picking festival. In the 1800s, lacemaking was an important job for the area. The first chapel was built in 1843,  the first school in 1876, and the first Cricket Club formed in 1898. In 1904 the Golf Club was completed, and the Flackwell Heath Football Club was established in 1907.

History of The Stag Pub and Kitchen

The Stag Pub as it stands today, with its traditional beamed interior and brick and flint exterior, dates back to the early 18th century. Nestled high on the hill overlooking the Thames Valley and only a couple of miles off the M40 at junction 3, it is easily accessible from High Wycombe, Marlow and the surrounding towns and villages.

In May 2024, The Stag , The Green Dragon and The Three Horseshoes were all threatened with closure. The staff came together to save two of the pubs, and after a few weeks of uncertainty, Charlie and Emma were able to take over the lease on both The Stag and The Green Dragon, saving over twenty local jobs.

There is a great article in The Bucks Free Press about the reopening of The Stag Pub in May 2024, and an earlier article covering our fight to save the pubs.
